When explorers first discovered lake Malawi, with it’s beautifully coloured fishes and seashells, they were almost determined they had reached the ocean. The lakes of the rift valley themselves are like their own little World encapsulated from time. Nowhere else in the world have so many species evolved endemically to be found nowhere but in Lakes Tanganyika and Malawi; Malawi alone having up to 600 endemic species with more yet to be discovered. Not only do the Lake’s residents rival the colours of saltwater fish but in behavior as well.
